Alison Wonderland - Loner GEOFS & Album Review

Hello everyone, been a while since I posted to the website. I’ve been neglecting it while I have been focusing on editing for the YouTube channel and getting videos out, but here I am trying to make things more concise between all platforms. If you are unfamiliar with the YouTube content, go check it out (there’s a link to the channel in the top right corner), but here’s a brief rundown of how it goes. My girlfriend Jawz and I play a game called Guessing Each Other’s Favorite Songs (or GEOFS for short) for an album. We try to do albums we are excited for right as they are released. We recently did this with the album Loner by Alison Wonderland, and we were joined by a very special guest, our friend Brandy, who is a huge Alison Wonderland fan.

For the game itself, we take turns trying to guess each other’s top 5 songs from the albums, explaining our reasonings as we guess. We get two points for guessing the exact right placement in the top 5, and get one point for correctly guessing a song that is somewhere in the top 5. The most points at the ends wins, with the reward being something we decide on during the video (or sometimes we forget). The winner of this video got a gift from the other two contestants at EDC Las Vegas. Yes this was recorded a while ago, but hey, editing takes time. After we play the game, we roll straight into a review of the album.

Here’s the video for you to check out:

For those who don’t particularly care about the game but want to hear our review, here it is: we loved the album! The majority of the album was trap, which AW has historically produced so that did not surprise us. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of sounds that were in the album as a whole, with slower vibier tracks, some more experimental sounds, as well as some more techno-ey elements in places. As always, AW delivers some incredible vocal performances with some really great messages about perseverance, love, and relationships. The thing that we loved the most about the album is that there were absolutely 0 features on the album. While we do appreciate the level of collaboration and community in the EDM scene, it was very refreshing to see an artist release an album of purely their own music and vision. As is customary during our videos, we each gave the album a rating out of ten. I personally loved it and gave it a 9/10, Jawz gave it a 7/10, and Brandy gave it a 7.5/10.

We have more videos coming up soon, mainly a game of GEOFS and Album Review for Flume’s album Palaces, Party Favor’s album RESET, and Odesza’s album The Last Goodbye. Stay tuned for those.
